Morning: coffee at Algorithm, 109 Marrickville Road.
Late morning: walk Marrickville Road and duck into the shops. It is the main strip, running from the Sydenham end up to the town hall.
Lunch: a pork roll at Marrickville Pork Roll, 236A Illawarra Road, with a juice.
Dinner: Baba’s Place, 20 Sloane Street, in a warehouse behind a roller door. Book ahead and check the days it opens.

Housing mix: 47.2% apartments, 32.0% freestanding houses, 18.5% semis and terraces, across roughly 26,500 residents.
Pockets: the Marrickville Road strip; Illawarra Road south to the Warren; the Addison Road arts and community precinct; Victorian Italianate houses along Livingstone Road; Federation bungalows and terraces through the side streets.
Transport: Marrickville station is part of the Sydney Metro conversion of the old Bankstown Line. Check Sydney Metro for current service status. Buses run along Marrickville, Illawarra and Victoria roads.
