One thing I’d do in Earlwood
My pick
Do a Homer Street morning. Start with the fruit shop just off Homer Street: Earlwood Growers Market at 12–16 Clarke Street, directly across from Coles, is the best in the area. Then head down to the river.
- Gough Whitlam Park on the Cooks River, home of the annual Cooks River Festival.
- Girrawheen Park, heritage-listed bushland along Wolli Creek on the suburb’s southern side.
- The Earlwood Hotel on the corner of Earlwood Avenue and Homer Street.

The property side
- Housing mix: 80.1% freestanding houses, by far the highest of the suburbs in this series; 11.5% apartments; 8.3% semis and terraces. 44.4% of homes are owned outright.
- Pockets: Homer Street village and the Clarke Street shops; the Cooks River to the north and Wolli Creek to the south; the Undercliffe locality.
- Transport: Earlwood has no train station. Buses run along Homer Street on the old tram route, which operated from 1912 to 1957.
- Schools: catchments are address-specific, so check yours on NSW School Finder.
- My recent Earlwood results: 7 Macquarie Road, $2.1M; 144 Wardell Road, $1.85M.
