One thing I’d do in Camperdown

My pick

An afternoon in Camperdown Memorial Rest Park, then dinner at Derrel’s, the late-night British-Indian diner inside the Lady Hampshire at 89 Parramatta Road. Butter chicken gravy goes on more than you’d expect.

The park was Camperdown Cemetery until most of it became open grass in 1948. The walled section beside St Stephen’s still holds the old graves and a patch of kangaroo grass, a remnant of the forest that once covered the Inner West. It has picnics, ball games and off-leash areas for dogs. Strictly speaking it sits just over the line in Newtown.
